The ethereal, twitchy soundtrack for The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) is one of the best out there. Composer Bernard Herrmann, famous for his collaborations with Hitchcock, has created an atmospheric score good for sticking on in the background when you need to think about something, or perhaps when you want to poke your head out of the window upon an evening and contemplate your meagre existence in the scale of things as a whole.
