The first time I came across Joseph Campbell was, like most people, in a writing class. I was about nineteen at the time and it took only a few brief scans through some of his books to become completely hooked on the ideals that he presented in them, the things that they could be used for, and the pure magic and charm of his discoveries.
The Hero With A Thousand Faces was the first of his books that I read – it’s the most famous, is probably why – and, as is usually said about the reading of this book, it was the first step that I took on my own journey into trying and understanding the world from the vantage point of his teachings. If you’ve never heard of the guy, or only briefly read through his ideas, then this documentary is the perfect antidote to most of your problems.
